The trailer for ‘Blue Beetle’ captures the interest of Latin superheroes

Blue Beetle has a lot of opportunities in the new DC Universe, thanks to James Gunn’s ability to bring obscure characters to the forefront.
The trailer for “Blue Beetle,” starring Xolo Mariduea as Reyes, a recent college graduate who transforms into a superhero after being ordered to hold on to but not open a box, has been released by DC.
That’s because it includes an ancient artifact known as “the Scarab,” which chooses Reyes as its host, bestowing extraordinary abilities on him and his close-knit family.
“The universe has sent you a gift, and you have to figure out what you are going to do with it,” Rudy, played by George Lopez, says to Reyes in the teaser.
The new film was originally scheduled to premiere on HBO Max, but it will now be released theatrically. (The parent corporation of CNN owns both DC and HBO Max.)
The film, directed by Angel Manuel Soto, will be released in theaters on August 18.
