The audience was moved by Manh Quynh’s spring song written for Phi Nhung
“Spring without you,” written by Manh Quynh for the late singer Phi Nhung, has nearly 300,000 views after one day and has entered the top 20 trending YouTube Vietnam. After hearing this song, the audience was moved.
The singer stated that the pain of Phi Nhung’s death has not yet subsided. When spring arrives, Manh Quynh recalls the times when both of them ran shows. Last year, the artist returned home with Phi Nhung to discuss a plan to record a live show for 20 years of singing abroad and create a music night for audience exchange. This memory inspired him to write songs. Manh Quynh finished the lyrics on December 15, 2021, and then asked musician Duc Tam to mix them.
According to Manh Quynh: “I recorded the song at home while sick with a cold, so my voice wasn’t great. However, I still have this record because I only sing when I’m feeling particularly emotional.”
Manh Quynh wrote a farewell poem to Phi Nhung as well as a poem reflecting on their two-decade friendship.
The audience pairs them because they frequently perform on stage. Phi Nhung has a biological daughter in the United States, who was once dubbed “Manh Quynh’s child”. They always claim to be just friends. Manh Quynh claimed that when he was close to Phi Nhung, his wife was not jealous. Throughout her life, Phi Nhung was always concerned about the well-being of her “musical soulmate”. The female singer is concerned that her best friend will be easily agitated if she goes on stage with female fans, jeopardizing her family’s happiness.
Phi Nhung died on September 28 at Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, after more than a month of treatment for COVID-19. After spending time abroad, the singer spent the last five months of her life working in the domestic entertainment industry. Manh Quynh also frequently visits the house to sing. The two are frequently invited to perform on major music programs and to serve as judges in bolero competitions.
