September 11, 2022 – Boi Vi Anh Yeu Em in concert at iLani Live

On Sunday, September 11, 2022, we went to see Boi Vi Anh Yeu Em in concert at iLani Live in Ridgefield, Washington, at the Cowlitz Ballroom. The doors opened at 7 o’clock and the concert started at 8 p.m. with the band Hoang Thi Thi as the opening act. Bằng Kiều, Minh Tuyết, Hồng Ngọc, Lâm Nhật Tiến, Ánh Minh, Công Thành-Lyn, Huỳnh Gia Tuấn are the vocalists, and Việt Thảo is the MC.

The Performance:

I could immediately tell the vibe within the auditorium was different as soon as I entered. Everyone in the audience was eager for the concert to begin. Everyone was quite pleased when they started playing music and adjusting the lights.

One by one, the performers began to emerge onto the stage. I couldn’t wait to see their various clothes and how stunning each one of them looked.

The initial intention was for each vocalist to perform three to four songs. To fit the entire two hours into the presentation, the program may have had to vary due to time constraints. This means the singers will have more songs to cover in the two hours time frame.

The Performers:

Hồng Ngọc has released a number of successful solo studio albums, including Tâm Hồn Tình Yêu (2000), Trái Tim Bé Bỏng (2003), Một Thoáng Hương Tình (2004), Em Về (2005), Mặt Trái Tình Yêu (2008), Vết Thương Cuối Cùng (2009), and Quá Khứ (2009). She has performed in front of audiences in Vietnam, Europe, North America, and Australia. She first gained attention in 2000 with the single Mắt Nai Cha Cha Cha (written by Sỹ Luân). Hồng Ngọc went on to have more success, collaborating with singer Đàm Vĩnh Hưng on duets of songs like Vùng Trời Bình Yên (written by Phạm Hữu Tâm), Đường Xa Ướt Mưa, and Như Đã Dấu Yêu (both written by Đức Huy). Chuyện Thường Tình Thế Thôi (written by Lê Quang), Tin Nhắn của Anh (written by Minh Nhiên), and Một Thoáng Hương Tình (written by Hoài An) are among her other popular recorded songs.

Bang Kieu had become one of Vietnam’s most famous male singers. He released a number of hugely successful duet albums with other top recording artists. In 2004, he made his debut on Thuy Nga’s wildly popular Paris By Night live show music video series, performing Anh Se Nho Mai, a song he co-wrote with musician Duc Tri. Since then, he has made numerous returns to the Paris By Night stage and has become Thuy Nga’s exclusive recording artist. He has also recorded many well-received duets with artists such as Khanh Ha, Thuy Tien, Tran Thu Ha, Minh Tuyet, Thanh Ha, and Van Quynh for the Thuy Nga label.

Minh Tuyet made a big impression on the Paris by Night stage when she performed Trai Tim Lo Lam for the first time. Since then, she has amassed a sizable fan base of Vietnamese music fans all over the world. Minh Tuyet is still the exclusive contract performer for Thuy Nga Paris. She is constantly on the road, performing to sold-out Vietnamese audiences all over the world. Minh Tuyet is a Vietnamese popular music singer who has achieved superstardom.

Lam Nhat Tien, blessed with good looks and a distinctive singing voice, had become a heartthrob among Vietnamese audiences worldwide. Em Da Quen Mot Dong Song (1997), Yeu Em Am Tham (1998), Lam Lai Tu Dau (1999), Mai Yeu Nguoi Thoi (2001), and Noi Voi Toi Mot Loi (2006) are among his studio albums. His duet recordings with fellow label mate Lam Thuy Van have received positive feedback, making them one of the most popular duos among Vietnamese singers living abroad. Lam Nhat Tien is an overseas Vietnamese singer best known for his music video appearances on Asia Productions. He made his Asia Productions debut on Dem Saigon 4 alongside Lam Tuong Bao. Since then, his popularity has allowed him to perform at live shows all over the world. Lam Nhat Tien has managed to maintain his professional relationship with Asia Productions to this day. He had worked with Thuy Nga Paris for a short time, appearing in music videos and recording a studio album, Dau Chan Cua Bien.

Ánh Minh has performed for Vietnamese audiences all over the world, including the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe, and Japan. Ánh Minh has also served as a spokesmodel for companies such as Senhoa Jewelry, Belage Gourmet, and Twinkle Lens. She is currently not under contract with any music production label and works as a freelancer. Ánh Minh most recently appeared on volume 79 of Asia Entertainment’s popular live show video series, where she performed a solo of the song, Tình Yêu Đã Hết Rồi (written by Mystic Nguyễn), which was filmed at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada in the fall of 2016 and released in the spring of 2017.

Huynh Gia Tuan performed the songs “Vì Đó Là Em,” “Hãy Đến Với Anh,” “Lk Chân Tình,” and “Lời Tỏ Tình Dễ Thương 2” during this show. I’ve attended a few live performances by Huynh Gia Tuan in the past. Each time I saw him, he is dressed sharply and looks younger.

Cong Thanh and Lyn are a rare instance of a duet pair in Vietnamese music, or one could even say the only one. Lyn, who is 100% Australian and not short, appears incredibly diminutive when compared to Cong Thanh. Since becoming husband and wife in 1985, they have enjoyed a happy marriage. In order to sing Vietnamese music, Lyn was taught how to pronounce the language by her husband. She also learned about Vietnamese culture so that she could perform more emotional songs. Overseas music fans have been thrilled to hear a blonde girl performing Vietnamese music next to a tall Vietnamese singer for more than 30 years. Lyn sang three songs with Cong Thanh: “Quen Di,” “Island in the stream,” and “What I say” on this show.

The Closure:

The year 2022 is shaping up to be a big one for live entertainment. Legendary acts are making a comeback; new artists are attempting to fill large venues, and there appear to be more festivals than ever before. Everyone and everything is vying for a piece of the consumer’s live entertainment budget. The reality is that only a few will succeed, and critics can play a role in determining who comes out on top. The importance of criticism in regard to concerts is as much about the performers on stage as it is about the production, the crowd, and the overall vibe of the event.

All the performers sang happy birthday to Lam Nhat Tien at the conclusion of the performance, and Steven Mai surprised everyone by playing the drums. I doubt Lam Nhat Tien knew about this. Cheers to Lam Nhat Tien’s birthday!
