NewJeans, a K-pop girl group, draws a record-breaking crowd to Lollapalooza Chicago

The rookie K-pop girl group, NewJeans, who had just been created in July 2022, attracted tens of thousands to Grand Park in Chicago, Illinois, on Thursday, the first day of the American music festival Lollapalooza. NewJeans were the first South Korean girl group to play at the festival. It was also their debut performance in the United States.

According to the group’s management company, ADOR, the K-pop quintet stole the show on the festival’s first day at the Grand Park in Chicago, Illinois, and gave a spectacular performance.

It delivered a dynamic set of 12 songs, providing over 70,000 people with an explosive 45-minute live spectacle.

The group began its set with “Hype Boy,” one of its breakthrough songs, and then went on to sing other of its hit songs, including “Cookie,” “Hurt,” “OMG,” and “Ditto.” Six songs from the band’s latest album, “Get Up,” were also performed live. According to the agency, the audience shouted and sang along to all of the songs.

According to Chicago Sun-Times, NewJeans pulled in the biggest audience ever for the festival’s 5pm slot. Videos of the crowd dispersing immediately after NewJeans’ performance have gone viral, which netizens view as testament to the group’s immense popularity in the US.

NewJeans – comprising Minji, Danielle, Hyein, Hyerin and Hanni, who are aged between 15 and 19 – expressed their gratitude on Instagram.

After the event, the band members expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to perform at Lollapalooza Chicago and expressed their enjoyment of the experience.

The members of NewJeans effectively communicated with the audience using their fluent English skills. They stated: “We were really happy to be able to spend the second summer of New Jeans together on such a hot and beautiful Lollapalooza stage.”

NewJeans created history at ‘Lollapalooza’ by becoming the first K-pop girl group to perform on the festival’s stage.

Following the ongoing success of their 2nd EP Album, ‘Get Up,’ NewJeans continue to dominate with their global success. They are intended to attend Japan’s famous music festival, ‘Summer Sonic 2023′, on August 19th.
