LEE HYORI IS BACK WITH ‘BLACK’
K-Pop Queen Ends Four-Year Break With New Album And Music Video
Lee Hyori is back with ‘Black’, the K-Pop queen’s sixth studio album. Even the album artwork, by fashion photographer Cho Ki Suk, created a stir when it was revealed. And now the full album that dropped on the 4th July gives us Hyori doing hip hop, pop, and ballads, and is almost all her own work (as she composed eight and wrote the lyrics for nine of the ten album tracks).
To hype the launch she just released a new video for the title track, ‘Black’. In it, Hyori plays a farmhand stuck in the barren baking middle-of-nowhere with no water and a dog to take care of, backed by a soundtrack of twanging guitars and desert blues.
The release ends four years out of the business which saw Hyori disappear from social media, get married (to guitarist Lee Sang-soon), leave Seoul to live on Jeju island, and get into yoga. “I cannot say there is one thing that changed me, be it Jeju, yoga, or my husband. I think it’s a combination of all of those things,” she just told a press conference.
